DISCRIMINATION

Unlike pitbulls that get a bad rap because of people’s ignorance of the breed, Aspins and Puspins get a bad rap simply because they’re not imported, don’t have foreign sounding names, and they don't come with the perceived status symbol of being "sosyal."

But for those that love their Aspins and Puspins, they know that these dogs and cats are just as loyal, smart, funny, loving, and devoted as their purebred counterparts. A dog is a dog and a cat is a cat.

It's easier for some people to cry about the injustices from halfway around the world but remain silent at the injustices happening right in their own backyard. So if you're going to share a post today, share this post and be the voice for these Aspins and Puspins that continue to be mistreated and abused by the very people that should be proud of them.

If you're going to get upset at the atrocities done to animals in other countries and will even share petitions after petitions to help, then you should be equally upset at the atrocities done to Aspins and Puspins and be compelled to DO SOMETHING to help them, too. Maybe you should a write a petition for the Aspins and Puspins, too? Maybe send a letter to your local government? Maybe you can petition the government to provide funding for animal shelters? Maybe you can engage your baranggay to work with you about the humane treatment of strays in your area?

If you put your mind to it, there are many ways you can help. But you must first get past the comment section because that will get nowhere. It's not what you say in the comments, it's what you DO. Action speaks louder than words.

Visit the sanctuary and meet all the Aspins and Puspins that have suffered some form of abuse. Read the comments in various cat/dog groups on Facebook and witness how many people will excitedly volunteer to adopt or rescue a purebred but scoff at the thought of adopting or saving an Aspin or a Puspin that need help. Is their life not worth saving?

So if you're not ok with others treating you badly and looking down at you because of the color of your skin or because you're 'just' a Filipino, then why is it ok to do it to them? And then ask yourself, what am I doing to help stop the abuse?
